The Mental Game

The Most Important Part Of Putting
(and all of Golf)

Anybody who has spent much time on the golf course knows that your state of mind is the most important part of golfing success. Having a strong fundamental technique leads to further success, and confidence. I believe that many golfers out there have great technique, but still do not experience the success they want. This is all due to the mental game. In the first few years of my golfing career I spent way to much time practicing at the driving range only to choke mentally at the course. It is extremely important to practice at the range and on the practice green to get the physical part down, but It is equally important to train your mind. I see so many people with great physical skills going to waste because they lack confidence and cannot produce a consistent state of mind. Don't let this be you!

I wish I had taken the time to perfect my mental game earlier. It is really what separates the great putters from the average/poor putters. Give yourself a real head start with:

So what is the mental game of golf?
To me, the mental part of putting, and each shot in golf, involves a pre-shot routine that includes visualizing the perfect shot. I cannot stress how important it is to visualize your putt. As part of your pre-putt routine you should imagine, in as much detail as possible, the image of the entire putt as it comes off the putter until it rolls neatly into the hole. When you put that image in your head you're already halfway to making that reality.

I think the visualization is the most important part of the pre-putt routine, but the rest of the routine is very important as well. Simply having a routine will help put your mind at ease before a putt. A typical routine might include such things as reading the green from different angles, practice strokes, breathing, and (the most important) visualization. I believe all of these things should be part of the routine, but the specifics of how you read the green, or how many practice strokes you take is up to each individual. The most important thing is that it is the same each time. This is how you arrive at the relaxed, and confident, state of mind needed for successful putting.

I believe the mental game is the most important part of putting. I want to urge you to try Mind Power Breakthrough Mental Game Coach. It is a great program that can get your mindset right, and that will lower your score!
